It feels less like an RPG since the weapons have no stats. So the Loadout lets you choose your options and then in-game you can switch between two weapons (I guess the one I choose and then the one I used before that.?) Probably would've been better if they used a different color scheme. I also figured out that the grey weapons are simply weapons which have only one option, and not weapons unavailable to you. Otherwise the weapons appear automatically and you have to highlight your main weapon in blue to use it. After posting this I realized I could see all my weapons in the Powers bar (when you use LEFT SHIFT), and that the Loadout only matters if there are 2 types or more of the same weapon. That some Weapons are not available is probably because of your characters class. I assume the greyed ones are not available for whatever reason, but I could be wrong.

About half way through ME2, youll be able to pick assault rifle training, shotgun training, or sniper rifle training or you can pick one you are already trained in, and you will instead receive a powerful weapon of that type that you cant get anywhere else. every mission I get a list of several weapons for each character, some of the weapons are highlighted, some are greyed. ME2 also adds submachine guns that can be used by all classes alongside pistols.
